Talking Motorcycle Blog

Looked for an excuse to go riding. Beautiful day. Went to Home Despot for some 2-cycle oil and some 10-10-10 for the shrubs and who do I run into -- Ken Grey - one of the owners of Everybody's (or is it Everbodies) Pizza in Virginia Highlands here in Atlanta GA and BMWMOGA lurker. He is riding a way cool Silver GSX1200 with a Hannigan Sidecar! We ended up talking for about twenty minutes about his Bike. You have got to see this thing. Wide tires (looked like 195/70-14) front, rear and side. The side car was a lot wider than any other I have ever seen. Trick front end and trick rear (Sway bar connecting the side car wheel to the rear swing arm.) I hope he brings it to a meeting some day (and I'm there).

Can anybody say "Ride to Eat"?

Hope you all got to ride today!

Sincerely,

What a day for riding - cool and clear. Rode down to Columbus to see Bill Haycock. We drove over to GA190 and road the ridge pkwy to Warm Springs. Ate at Mac's BBQ - pork plate with the hot sauce and a slice of three layer carrot cake. Marked the three little pigs BBQ on the way home (We ate there a year ago after the January club meeting).

A beautiful day for a ride. You know he's moving.

BTW - Saw the turned over tractor-trailer truck on I285 this AM. There were emergency vehicles on our side of the road as well creating a ten mile backup. It was odd seeing no cars on the north bound side!

Gotta go. See y'all.

TTFN,

Default HOT Sauced

Yep. It was a dry hot. Didn't get heartburn thou. I'll keep you posted on the courthouse ride (Central Georgia Two Day.) I'm trying to re-arrange my April work schedule so all is in flux. Great seeing you at the Motorcycle show and also meeting Nancy Boore. We both looked at the Autocomm system booth for about 10 minutes before going our seperate ways. Looks like the way to go. Unfortunately quite expensive tho. I think I can use it with my in-ear plugs that I'm now using with my Sony discman for music/radio. I need to talk to those people. I would have been nice to be able to talk to Breitt Zeitz on the five corner ride over a radio.

Default Wednesday AM

It is Foggy 45 F this morning here in Dekalb County. Was thinking about riding the bicycle for exercise this morning but with the vis at about <600ft even with flashing lights it's a bit dodgy. Y'all be carefull riding the motorcycles this AM.

Gotta call Givi in Charlotte today. Intermittent E52 topcase brake lights traced to faulty connector on the bottom of the topcase. One of the springs in the connector is broken/gummed/boogered up and WD40 will not free it up - hence the intermittent connection. Still waiting for Givi to send a new keyless entry door for the right case that I broke before the start of the Five-Corner-Ride. They promised any day now. (Just not which day). Givi stuff sure is fragile.

Oh I just remembered. Yesterday I was getting on I-285S at LaVista road and in the longish line of cages waiting to get on the throughway was a motorcycle. So I cut in line and dropped in beside and behind the gentleman who was riding a large bore much modified crotch rocket with wide rear tire. He noticed my presence and as we got on the highway he treated me with a display of his riding style. He lane split the entrance ramp and then picked a spot to cut across five lanes of traffic to the far left lane. This was in the middle of clot of cages and a truck. If anybody had panic braked as this fool cut across in front of them there would have been another multi-cage pileup on I-285. I was embarrassed to be riding and got off at the next exit.

Default Givi boxes

Bill I had the same problem with my Givi top box. Even though I paid about $35 more to have the light in it, I finally gave up the ghost with its intermittent
& erratic operation.

Basking in the glow of succesful No. GA trip and now its time for...maintenance. Was great fun riding with Ken Gray and his Slash 2 R90 SIDECAR yesterday through the Sulphur Springs and Newsome Gap Roads. *Prints out task list* Gotta change the oils - 4500 mile service and check frame for loose nuts after rough gravel roads. Nuts?! Scrat? Scrat! BAD Squirrel..Noooooooooooooooooooooooo.......

Default Oil Change finished

I actually DID find a loose nut! It was where the luggage rack connects to the frame at the LH aft footpeg. A few more tasks to finish tomorrow.

Default 2006 04 03 Tuesday

Replaced Givi Electrical connector today. New connector exibites symptoms of the same problem as old connector so it will probably fail as well. I'm going to call Givi on this as I believe they have a quality control problem.

Also installed clock and voltmeter on fairing today. Clock works fine but voltmeter seems to indicate lower than normal system voltage. Checked volmeter against battery and it checked out. Traced to bad ground on lights/accessories in fairing. I fixed the ground but still the indicated voltage is a bit low. I may have to live with this but for the moment I'm going to give it a rest until I can come up with a better idea on trouble shooting this.

Finished all tasks on the 4500 mile service plus cleaned the snowflakes/final drive drum and spline today. I've been using Mr. Clean eraser sponges on the rims and on the sidewalls. Believe it or not they both get really clean.

Ready to ride again. WOOHOOO!
