So for all you experienced BMW riders...I have just purchased a new bike:)
Although I won't get it for two weeks, I am now the proud owner of a "big" bike...a 2005 R1200ST. Blue/silver color combo. Just waiting for the bar backs to be installed then Howard will help me go get it.
Can new clothes be far behind???

Congratulations, Ellen! That's a great bike even if you don't get new clothes. How do you like the new forum?

The new forum is wonderful. Just what we've needed for a long time.

Alright Ellen,
Two weeks seems like a long time. What were you riding before. I vaguely recall that it was red - Or was that Howard's bike?

My current bike (which I'm keeping until I get used to the new one) is a 2003 F650CS...metallic pumpkin with blue inserts on the side panels. I love the bike and have put over 30,000 miles on it in about 15 months!
I'm sure I will love the new one also...but it will take getting used to. I've been riding less than two years.

...a 2005 R1200ST
I bet you will really be able to appreciate the power difference between old bike and new bike. The 1200 hex head seems to put out a good torque and bhp ratio, which calculates to "smiles by the miles":)

Howard,
It's pretty but it looks like a sport bike. Is the ride position forward? Wouldn't that make highway pegs uncomfortable? Oops Oh I get it. Its an ST. (duh:rolleyes: )

Very nice bike. Very nice color scheme. It looks like it is moving even standing still. Is Ellen going to get a customized tag or license plate for it? You know, like...does this ST make my butt look fast....or something. :)

Jeff,
I definitely am not going to get a tag calling attention to my butt! I do have a custom plate holder that doesn't fit on my F650, so hopefully it will fit on the ST...but it doesn't have anything sexy written on it, just my website:(
Can't wait to feel the power! I've had the F650 up to 115mph...I'm sure the R/ST can beat that:)

I've riden with Jackie before, but not Ellen. All I can say is Helen needs to be at the top of her game. HP ain't everything (except in the straightaway). You can have the badest bike out there but if you ain't got the intestinal fortitude to ride it, its all a waste. :-))
Good luck Helen, Jackie rides that F650 like the wind! Her and I put it on a bunch of crouch rockets one day. Her on her F650 and a fat man on an R1100RTL. We stopped at a gas station and Jackie's adrenaline was so hi she bounched around that gas station for 10 minutes! :-)

Tim,
I'm taking the fifth on that one.
You know how high my bike sits off the ground? A couple of weeks ago I was coming down 129 with some guys and scraped a footpeg in a turn. That had me bouncing around too - I almost turned myself inside out! Now I need a matching scrape on the other side.

Tim,
You actually have ridden a little way with me last year to the meeting in Rutledge. When Jackie and I left you we really hauled it down the highway. Intestional fortitude is my nick name! BTW, it's Ellen with an E...used to have an English teacher who made the same mistake. Started calling him Mr. Greenstein instead of Greenburg!!!:D

OK Ellen, you got me. Now start practicing with that new ST. You'll need it!

Tim, you are absolutely right that in order for me to be as good a rider as Jackie, or you, I will need a lot of practice on the ST. But if you consider the fact that I've only been riding for about 16 months (and 36,000 miles) I don't think I'm doing that badly. I know what I don't know, I'm not afraid to ask for help (ask the Murray's about that), I try to learn something new whenever I ride, and I try not to get too over confident. The reason I really like riding with this group is that there are so many good riders that I learn from. Hopefully someday, someone will tell me that they learned something good by riding with me. In the meantime, I will, indeed, practice;)

Ellen you are an awesome rider! Believe me. I can't wait to go for another ride with you and your new bike.
You have come so far in the short time you've been riding and ridden further than I ever have in one trip. I guarantee I'll pick something up following you. Keep on girl!

Ellen,
I have no doubt you are a good rider. Like I said I haven't ridden with you much. I have ridden with Jackie some, and my point is she is a very good rider, and if your going to "out" ride her you better have your Wheaties for breakfast. :)
We all have to start somewhere. I'm glad you are in the club and so dedicated to riding. We need people like you.

Ellen,
You will like the bigger bike especially on long trips. It doesn't work as hard to keep up and leaves you more relaxed. :p
