Found this on facebook. The one good thing is it says it lasts for 12 hours. Other bluetooth last 3-4 hours.
I was trying to figure out if it can be hooked up with garmin and J&M CB. If it does, that would be cool!

These work best for me . . . one of the reasons I ride is to get away from the phone, MP3 player, TV, Internet, blah, blah, blah . . .

Jan,

Scalarider makes something similar. But Scala doesn't have the "plug" input for the MP3. Scala boasts 7-8 hours on a charge. Remember, GPS and J&M would have to be Bluetooth compatible for this to work. J&M should be coming out with a Bluetooth "dongle" for their units this fall but from what I hear it's not going to be cheap.

I'm kinda between Shredder and Princess on this. There are long stretches of desolate road where my iPod and earbuds help me get through on occasion, but in no way shape form or fashion do I want or need to communicate with anyone or anything else when I'm riding, except the little voice in my head.

No CB. No 2 way radio. No cell. Limited wires.

yeah I would really miss my tunes if I didn't had them I'd have to listen to all of Phil's buddies in my head :emoticon-0130-devil

And here I just took out the CD changer from the sidecase because it took up too much room. I still have the radio and the cassette player though! :emoticon-0136-giggl

Hi Jan,

The Scala Rider Q2 has bluetooth and FM stereo radio plus it does have a plug for your MP3 player. http://www.cardosystems.com/scala-rider/scala-rider-q2 The Scala Rider Q2 will also "pair" via bluetooth with other riders over a good distance.

There is a new Q4 unit but I have no experience with it. It might have more bluetooth channels than the Q2 to handle stereo phones like the Iphone.

Not sure about the battery life of the Q2 in the FM radio and MP3 modes. I use my Q2 primarily for telephone. It lasts over 22 hours between charges in that role since it "sleeps" between calls.

All the other external voices in my head (i.e., Mother Garmin, XM radio, radar detector, onbike am/fm radio) come through a MixIt-2 via helmet speakers. AeroStitch is a great source for helmet speakers, 3.5mm coiled wires, etc.

BTW: When I was at Virginia Tech I was one of the original beta testers for the Scala Rider. That was in 2005. I still have the original unit I tested (it's a bluetooth to the phone only) and use it when I'm on my GS.

Hope this helps,

Jim

I use 'em with my Nano and a Sony CD/AM/FM. I don't have an external comm system yet.

Update: On my last trip up north I had a problem that Roy Fant had: The tip coming off the plug and staying in the ear. I've had some fly fishing mono filiment line on the end of the plug. But I'm going to change that to the first ring closest to the plug so that it will pull the tip out. I'll post a picture of this farkel this weekend.

Greetings from Rainy Cool New York.

Excellent idea on the filament.. you must be a roll caster !!!!! :emoticon-0144-nod:

I'm wondering how effective it is using the iPhone.. microphone wind noises etc..etc..etc..

...I can get a bug on the water in front of a fish!!!

My friend Chris Racette calls on the bike using his phone and it is quite hard to hear him. LDR. Jim has a much better set up. He is quite easy to understand.

He is around *hear* somewhere.

I'm thinking about using my ER6i's with a throat mic set up to avoid having to hard mount anything in the helmet.

Hi Bill,

The Scala Rider isn't "hard mounted" to the helmet. A plastic clamp holds it to the helmet with two hex screws. The very thin speakers are held in place with velcro.

Come over and take a gander at my setup.

Jim

PS: I confirmed last week that battery life on the Q2 in "phone only" mode is at least 28.5 hours. I used it without a hitch riding nonstop from South Bend, IN to Bethel Woods, NY to Spartanburg, SC. Plus, it was still working great on the ride home from Spartanburg on Sunday.
