Anyone know the best way to remove the impeller from the water pump/ oil pump shaft of a K100RS? Bolt is removed but seems stuck....

Plastic explosive always works well for me.

I make it in my secret lab and sell to dentists for root canals. Works great for hang nails too.

Blackduc1,

From the parts diagram below it appears it really IS just stuck:

I'd apply a heat gun from a foot away to heat it up to just under water boil and give it a few gentle taps. Are you replacing a leaking seal?

Good advice, but use Aero Kroil....the oil that penetrates. I have a heat gun and the Kroil.

Thanks, guys, for the input.

I talked to Walt and he suggested putting the bolt back in the end of the shaft and tapping it with a hammer. That did work, but it was still reluctant to let go. If that had not worked, Danny had offered a gear puller that may have done it.

The seals were totally gone and corroded. Now I am not sure if the shaft is re-usabel or not. But I do have it apart and cleaned now.

Thnaks.

Doug,

Bad news, install of seal is not a do it yourself job. On my old K-bike I had the same issue. You will need a new shaft as your's is pitted, a new impeller as they have been updated to mate with the new shaft/seal and a dealer will need to install the seal with the correct BMW tool so the plastic/metal seal is correctly installed, and not ruined.

Any questions give me a call. Jonathan

Thanks Jonathan.
Tech articles and Clymer describe how to install seals without the BMW tool. Can be done.
Yes I need a shaft and am looking for that now. Impeller is OK on this '87 bike. Not the old style.

I have a possibly usable shaft from my old "85 bike.

May need it. How much you want?

I think Matt has one here in Athens. Let me check on that first I recon.
Also, isn't the 85 one a little different than 87? had a nut on the end or something?

My shaft has a threaded end on the impeller end, does this match your take off?
