When I ride for awhile, usually about 100 miles, I experience a sharp pain in my right thigh which my doctor said is "Meralgia paresthetica." I am wondering if an aftermarket seat might alleviate this annoying problem. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. When it occurs having to stop after 100 miles is annoying.

I have a Corbin seat I use on my 04 K1200GT for sale, you could try it if it will fit that year, I think there the same. I have been using a Rick Mayer seat for the last couple of years and love it. Give me a call. 770.298.3434 Douglas

Hi Jeff,
Meralgia paresthetica is basically a "pinched" or compressed nerve. The culprit nerve passes through the groin to the upper thigh and, in your case, may become trapped — probably under the inguinal ligament, which runs along your groin from your abdomen to your upper thigh.
Given this, you might not need a new seat . . . just a new riding position. Have you every ridden with your feet on the passenger pegs (not recommended for city traffic!?!)? For some people that can really change the dynamics of their pelvic cradle relieving the nerual discomfort quickly.
Also, you might ask your MD or a physical therapist about exercises to stretch the inguinal ligament?

for what it is worth I did quite a bit of research on this since my wife has a bad back. Instead of the seat route, I went with an AirHawk from the RoHo group. http://www.shapefitting.com/
Among other things, their products are used for medical purposes as well as aviation, etc.
In my case, I was pleased with the results. I have a stock seat '00 1100 RT and a 1976 R75/6 and switch the pad between the two bikes. On a round trip to Savannah last month on the RT there was no numbness, etc.
They have a 60 day money back guarantee and some graphics on their site about reducing pressure point nerve pain.
I wish you luck as having a life passion cause pain is no fun.

I agree completely. The AirHawk is wonderful. And there are so many different sizes and styles now.
I've had one for about 5 years. Haven't used it since I got a Sargent Seat . . . but then, I've been limited to 500 mile days most of the year?!?

If you decide to look for a new seat, check out this website. http://www.sports-drive.com/
These guys are in Maryville, TN and will turn around a seat in 1 week or less. I had them do my F800ST seat this past July and it took 6 days including the return shipping. Didn't cost me an arm and leg either. Very happy with the results.
Tell Vern I sent you.
