Ed Jackson of the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government, is working on a long range project to record the GPS coordinates of all Georgia Historical markers and County Court Houses. Ed is the author of the resources we are using on the Georgia Court House Challenge ride! It would be a big help if those of us with GPS capability record the coordinates of the Court Houses we visit. Ed asks that we record the coordinates near the front steps leading up to the main entrance. Also, if there is a historical marker near the court house we record that separately. Most Garmin GPS units provide for two formats showing coordinates. They are:
If you decide record data for Ed please use the Hddd mm.mmm format. This format can be located in the "set up" menu of Garmin GPS units. I have prepared a form to record the data on - click here - to go to a page where you can print out the form. You may also "click" on the link to left of screen "GPS Coordinates Form" and print directly from the screen. Please record the data and send it on to me - I will compile it as it comes in and periodically send it on to Ed. Thanks for your help here - it will be a big help to those at UGA who are working on this project! |
