BMWMOGA 5 Corners Challenge

Rules for the Ride Challenge

  1. General Rule: Ride to the 5 [five] Corner Landmarks of GA and through the two vias in 48 hours.

  2. Route: Route, time and order of ride are at complete discretion of the rider. Riders can start and finish anywhere. All you have to do is go to the 5 Corner Landmarks and through the two vias within 48 hours.

  3. Five Corner Landmarks of Georgia: For directions, exact location and photos of the Corner Landmark see the website.
    • The Community Center/Fire Station, New Home, GA, near Chattanooga, in the NW
    • Trails End Marina Sign at Mile Zero, Hwy 253, southwest of Bainbridge, GA, in the SW
    • Cumberland Island Sign, Historic St. Mary's, GA on the SE Coast
    • Tybee Island Lighthouse, Tybee Island, GA on the NE Coast; and
    • The Dillard House Sign, Dillard, GA at the NE corner T

  4. Two vias:
    • Columbus
    • Augusta

  5. Via Requirements: There are no specific landmarks associated with the vias. Computer-generated receipts will serve for via verification. To fulfill the via requirement the receipt must have a computer print-out of the time, date, and via city's name. The computer printed via name on the receipt must be the exact name of the via [suburb names do not count!]

  6. Missing Corner Landmarks: If a Corner Landmark is missing, substitute something else easily identifiable with the Corner Landmark's location and include an explanation in your document submission.

  7. Ride Documentation:
    • A time/dated computer-generated receipt such as, but not limited to, gas or ATM receipts will serve as the Official Start Time. You have 48 hours from that time to complete the ride. A separate time/dated receipt will serve as the "Official End Time."
    • Computer-generated gas receipts will be used to certify the route and the actual time during the ride. Computer-Generated gas receipts must have a city name, time, date, gallons and dollar amount printed on the receipt.
    • As mentioned above, riders must obtain a printed computer-generated receipt from each of the two vias. This receipt need only have date, time and the exact city name.
    • Riders must also keep a ride log. This log will be used for time accounting and must contain at least, but not limited to, the Ride's Start and End Times and odometer readings, plus Odometer Readings and times for all gas stops, food stops, rest stops, Corners and Vias.
    • Photo Requirement: Photos will be used to verify presence at each of the 5 corners. Riders must provide a photo of each land mark. The photos must clearly include four elements:
      • The Corner Landmark
      • The bike [or an easily recognizable part of the bike]
      • The rider
      • The photos must contain a written notation as to the time at the location and the bike's odometer reading (this can be hand-written anywhere on the photo).
      • Digital photos are okay, but recommend also having film or Polaroid cameras as a backup.

  8. Required Rest Stop: Sometime during the 48 hours riders are required to stop for minimum of 6 [six] continuous hours. This can be anywhere the rider chooses. It can be in a motel, in a park, a rest area, at a friend's house or even at your own home.

The spirit and intent for this stop is to get some rest and spend some time off the bike before the end of the ride. Thus, the Rest Stop End Time must not be the same time as the Ride End Time. Computer generated In and Out receipts will be used to verify Rest Stop times. They do not necessarily have to be from the exact same location. For example, a motel's computer-generated receipt might be used as the 6-hour Rest Stop's start time. 6-hours later a receipt from the restaurant across the street, or perhaps a gas station receipt from the same locale on can serve as the rest stop end time. Another example, two Computer-generated gas receipts for the same gas station or in the same locale would also suffice. Other combinations of computer-generated receipts are acceptable so long as they are in the same locale.

  9. Ride Verification/Certification: Copies of all receipts, photos and a riders log will be sent-in to the ride-master for verification at either:
    • wfmccann@mindspring.com
    • 5 Corners Ride Verification
      105 Saddlebrook Court
      Roswell, GA 30075

  10. Photo Usage Permission. Riders agree to allow ride their Corner Landmark photos to be posted on the Ride's website, on BMWMOGA's website and on bmwogalist@yahoogroups.com.

  11. Awards, Ceremonies, High Honors, and Recognition etc.: Following verification and certification, successful rider's names will be posted on the website. There, they will become famous far and wide as successful finishers of the prestigious BMWMOGA 5 Corners Ride. Successful finishers will also be afforded all due respect, honors, privileges and special rights commensurate with this substantial motorcycling accomplishment.

  12. Rider Stories: Riders are encouraged to submit ride stories and tales for posting on the BMWMOGA 5 Corners Ride website.
